NW, French leader in battery energy storage systems (BESS), is working through its subsidiary NW Finland to become the strategic platform for battery energy storage in the ordic countries by 2027. This expansion will enable Finnish expertise to be exported to Sweden and the Baltic countries in the first instance.
Recognized as one of Europe’s leading energy groups, NW aims to deploy 1GW/3GWh in the Nordic and Baltic countries. This pan-European expansion is supported by its subsidiary NW Finland and enables the export of Finnish expertise. In Finland, more than 200 storage units, known as JBox®, are already in service to support the country’s ambitious energy transition.
JBox® units play an essential role in local and national electricity grids. They provide a balancing solution in Finland where more than 55% of the energy mix is supplied by renewable energies. They enable the integration of wind and solar energy into the electricity system and mitigate price fluctuations in the electricity markets. Deployed in remote locations, they also help to ensure a reliable electricity supply for municipalities and businesses.
In order to expand into Sweden and the Baltic countries, NW will draw on the expertise it has acquired in Finland and France. This expertise is part of a local approach and long-term vision, with supervision of all projects from development and commissioning through to operation. This expertise guarantees the quality, sustainability, and successful integration of each project into the electrical system.
« NW is already the largest developer and operator of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in France, with more than 1000 MWh of assets in operation. The group aims to become a key player in Europe’s energy transition. We are proud to be at the forefront of a more resilient energy future that can withstand shocks, adapt to crises, and continue to function even in the event of disruptions », said Jean-Christophe Kerdelhué, Executive President of the NW Group.
